Modified amino acid database (MAADB) is a database for chemically-modified free- or protein-incorporated amino acids, and is globally opened by ‘Crosstalk between transcriptional control and energy pathways, mediated by hub metabolites’ supported by Scientific Research on Innovative Areas, a MEXT Grant-in-Aid Project FY2011-2015, JAPAN.
 
In the transcriptional control system, hub metabolites (intracellular metabolic products), such as ATP, acetyl-CoA, and S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) are assumed to regulate functions of histone and the transcription factors through post-translational modifications (for example, phosphorylation, acetylation, and methylation) of their amino acid side chains as functional group-donors.
 
We fluorescent-labeled amino acids and their modified ones at the alpha-amino group, and analyzed their chemical characters by using Ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) and mass spectrometry.
